Restaurants

Little’s:

Newly relocated to the beautifully refurbished church right at the end of the road – it’s our absolute favourite. Ideal to stroll down to and so easy to stagger back from!!! The most fabulous fresh & seasonal fish ~ especially from the specials board ~ but great steaks too as is the local game. Try the oysters and squid pre-starters.

Willy and Helen will see you right! Better book on Friday or Saturday!

Sampan:

Restaurant & Take Away (Delivery when available). Joy of Joys: THE BEST CURRY HOUSE ON THE PLANET is 250m away from the house!

Just over the bridge on the left-hand side before the Angus Hotel and you are in poppadom heaven. Mainstay favourites and some Bangladeshi specialties but somehow tastier than any other curry house we have tried (and Lord knows – we have tried !!!)

The Balmoral Chinese:

Take Away. Extensive Chinese menu – plus full chip-shop options if you can’t decide!

The Chippy:

Take Away & Delivery. ‘Nuff Said.

Meikleour Arms Hotel:

Newly refurbished and extended, it offers very fine pub food – with plenty of fresh fish – as you would expect from a hotel specialising in fishing trips on the beautiful River Tay.

The Lands of Loyal Hotel:

In the small town of Alyth (15 mins away: £15 by cab) the Lands of Loyal has fantastic local / seasonal food in proper country house surroundings (with Highland Cattle in the grounds). Tap into your inner Lady Mary – or Monarch of the Glen – and have a tipple in front of the roaring fire in the wood panelled drawing room. You are guaranteed to spend the first 10 mins of your visit taking pictures whilst wondering where on earth is Jeeves with your drink …

Suggested Days Out

Dunkeld:

Approx. 40 mins away by car, Dunkeld is a great wee town on the very banks of the Tay in which to while away a day: Historic Dunkeld Cathedral, Fantastic Golf Club: excellent value, Art galleries and interiors shops (especially Jeffreys – evidence of which can be seen throughout Riverside House!), Scottish produce in abundance: whisky shops and the Dunkeld salmon smokery (if they have time, they will take you round the smokehouse on request), The TayBank Hotel for locals and stovies with live music.

Dalwhinnie Distillery Tour:

Informative and entertaining – your bekilted tour guide will regale you before a wee nip is enjoyed (with a chocolate tasting too if desired!)

Tayside Fishing:

Blairgowrie is fishing daft! Whether a seasoned expert – or enthusiastic novice, some of the finest river and loch fishing in the world is at your fingertips! Head to Kate Fleming on Allan Street in the centre of Blair, and she can arrange everything from kit hire and the insider’s nod on bait / reels to ghillies to instruct and advise any level of fisherperson: from a couple of hours beginners instruction to group events.

Butterstone Loch:

The Meikleour Arms also arranges day trips and instruction – beginning and ending at the pub: happy days!

We have collected a sample of some of the very many things to do in and around the town to inspire you:

Skiing in Glenshee, Some of the world’s finest golfing, Pony trekking in the Highlands, History at your fingertips (Stirling Castle / the Wallace Monument / Scone Palace) and beyond to the glory of Edinburgh.

Adrenaline experiences: Go Ape / white water rafting / quad bikes / off road biking / bungees etc.,

Kids fun: especially with wildlife.

Scottish Safaris

There is a Tourist Information Office on the Wellmeadow in the centre of town with hugely enthusiastic and informative staff to point you in the right direction.
